I don’t know about you, but I’m still waiting for the summer weather to feel… well, summery. I’ve never been much of a heat fan, but for some reason, this season I’m eagerly anticipating the heat wave so I can rock my high-waisted shorts and mini skirts.
Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t seem to want to cooperate – with breezy winds galore here in California, it looks as though layering is the only option. Because of this, I’ve picked out some choice looks from around the interweb that can be worn in both hot and cool weather. Interested? Scroll on down!
First up in my collection of looks for this month is this emerald green number. I love everything about this girl’s look, from her bold two-tone circle lenses to her lacey shorts. Everything is exactly where it should be, and it all looks chic to boot.
To get a similar look, I tried to stay true to the outfit’s tone, but instead of choosing green pieces, I found different garments in various shades of red and yellow. I first chose a fun red blazer that can be paired with a burgundy skirt and basic white burnout tank. Then, taking a cue from our friend’s plethora of bracelets, I chose some fun bangles in various shades of red, yellow, and gold. Finally, for the icing on the cake, I picked out a great bib necklace and pair of red sunglasses – throw them on and you’ll fight those treacherous UV rays and top off a perfect outfit.
After being told for years that horizontal stripes widen and vertical stripes slim, I am left pondering where chevron stripes fit in! This dramatic diagonal pattern has been a hot trend lately, seen all over fashion blogs and the streets. Since chevron stripes are so eye-catching, the pattern makes for strong statement pieces.
The chevron stripe could be FUN with other prints like florals or wear alone as an outfit focal point. I think this fresh pattern makes for a a perfect summer vibe – so maybe try it on a swimsuit or beach bag!
Summer Beauty Trend: Dyed Red Hair
From Rihanna’s fire-engine locks to Blake Lively’s new ‘do, red hair color is a definite beauty trend for this summer. While red hair has been hot for fall in the past, summer is a great time to experiment and add a punch of this hot color to your hair.

There are a wide spectrum of red shades to choose from, meaning this is a trend that gives you options! But the sure-fire way to find out which shade is right for you is to consult a stylist (which is always a good idea to do before dying your hair a dramatic color!).Narrow your choice first by finding examples of the color you’d like — consider taking in a photo of your favorite color or cut to a stylist.
Next, consider your natural coloring. You want to pick a shade of red that complements your skin tone. For those with “cool” skin (pink undertones), finding the “right” shade of red will be a bit easier — pulling off dark to light, strawberry to crimson shades will be fairly easy for you! (Just avoid overly yellow or orange-y shades for the most flattering look.) For those who have a “warm” skin tone (yellow or olive undertones), coppery shades and rich, warm tones will look stunning.
Finally, try to avoid the purple-y reds – they don’t match up well with many skin tones and often are less flattering than rich, coppery tones or strawberry shades.
Celebrity Street Style of the Week: Audrina Patridge, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, & Fergie
Every week, I scour the web to find inspiring outfits on your favorite celebs and help you recreate their looks! This week, I was inspired by Audrina Patridge, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, and Fergie. Read on to see how you can get their looks for yourself.
Outfit Inspired by Audrina
I love Audrina’s look because it works for both daytime and nighttime: While it’s a casual look, little details – like the top’s lace accents, the stone pendant necklace, and bronze sheen of the t-strap sandals – make it so much cuter. I’m also loving the straw fedora, which is the ultimate summer accessory, whether you are spending your day at the beach or in the city!
To spice the outfit up even more, try to find jeans with fun detailing on the backside — these jeans from Zara have similar pockets to Audrina’s, sitting lower and further out on your legs for a different look.Look 2: Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s Laid-Back Look
Actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler was at an event for TOMS shoes recently, incorporating a pair of the charitable kicks into a fashion-forward ensemble featuring an on-trend utility jacket. She also wore dark skinny jeans cuffed at the bottom with a striped t-shirt — so simple! She finished her look with a gold watch and sunglasses.
Outfit Inspired by Jamie-Lynn
Jamie-Lynn’s look would be perfect for a casual day out or even for traveling. Dark wash skinny jeans with a striped shirt in a fun, oversized shape look so put together when worn underneath a military or utility jacket. Next, a pair of navy blue TOMS are both super comfy and classic. Finally, keep the accessories simple — just add a watch and some sunglasses and you’re good to go!
Look 3: Fergie’s Retro Rocker Outfit
Fergie rocked out at a charity concert recently in some shredded denim shorts, Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses, and a black blazer, worn over a graphic-print t-shirt. I absolutely love her look because it represents a cool way to dress up a punk-rock look and make it stylish, not costumey.
Outfit Inspired by Fergie
To get Fergie’s look, start with some jean shorts that are seriously shredded – Urban Outfitters is a good place to start your search, or take a pair of old jeans or shorts and cut them up for the same effect. Next, pick a black graphic t-shirt — this one by Joyrich even uses the same dripped font as Fergie’s. A black blazer dresses up the look, and since it’s summer, some stores are carrying blazers in lighter, more seasonal fabrics. The blazer I featured above from Forever 21 is made from a cotton blend, so it’s a lighter option. Finally, it’s time for accessories. Nothing says “rocker” like a pair of classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers, which have made an appearance on tons of famous rockers through the years. And to keep up with this tough-yet-dressy look, these studded t-strap sandals are the perfect finishing touch.
1. Summer Scarf
This look is really cute and casual – it’s perfect for a relaxing summer day!
I started with a trusty pair of high-waisted denim shorts (I use these in so many of my posts, and guess what – I actually bought them the other day! LOVE.) and a plain white tee. These simple pieces create a blank canvas for the printed scarf, tied loosely around the neck as pictured. (It would look equally adorable as a turban-esque headband – but we’ll get into that in a second!) Finish the look with a pair of casual leather sandals and some eclectic bangles.
2. Hot Headband
I love this outfit so much – probably because it’s dripping with current trends and loaded with bright colors. Case in point: I started with a midi skirt… and not just any midi skirt, but a midi skirt in an eye-catching purple hue. Next, I added a trendy tie-front crop top, and accessorized with tribal jewelry. To finish the look, just tie the printed scarf into a turban-headband, as shown in the picture. (Here’s a video tutorial on how to do that!)
Overall, this look reminds me so much of the street style photos we see of all those super trendy girls at music festivals – and I think that’s probably why I’m so obsessed with it.
3. Purse Prettifier
Last up, as usual, is our most dressy look. This time, I chose a chic one-sleeved black dress, patent beige heels (these aren’t too high, which is a MUST for me), a cool purse in a matching shade, and some chain-link earrings.
And where does the scarf come in to play, you ask? Well… tied around the purse strap, that’s where! I love the way scarves look tied to purses – and the trend is ALL over sites like Lookbook and personal style blogs right now, so I know I’m not alone. Overall, it’s just a fun, interesting, and extremely easy way to add a pop of color to any outfit.
